There are not too many things that can inspire people as much as reading about the lives of other people who have made a difference in the world. These true to life stories that relate how these human beings have made their own mark in the world as we know it today can serve as a kind of stimulus to motivate readers in becoming more than what they are. It is very interesting to read about outstanding accomplishments achieved by ordinary people, but more importantly, learn a few things about how they were able to do them. The biggest advantage is probably being able to identify with the persons being read about, imagining how it is to be in the particular situations they were in, and get the boost needed to work on oneself to do great things. In other words, reading biographies can actually help ignite the small spark within a person and motivate him to make a difference himself.
Although television can be a great medium for learning since there are shows to watch that depict the lives of great people, nothing can be as good as reading a biography. Reading allows for a more personal connection to the person being read about. Not too many details can be re-enacted in movies and TV. With books however, every little aspect can be written about, each one providing a more explicit description of the person’s life. This is most probably because a book is a lot longer and does not have the time constraints that a movie or TV program has.
When it comes to whose biographies should be read, there are really no hard and fast rules. Every person who is important enough to have his biography written and made into a book will surely have their own lessons to give their reader, lessons that can be the start of bigger things.
